Norwalk, CT - 3/1/17
Freshman Walker Harris of the Wesleyan University men's ice hockey team was named the NESCAC Rookie of the Year, as voted on by the conference coaches and announced by the league office Tuesday.
Harris, who hails from Boulder, CO., is the first Cardinals player since 2006 to earn the honor and third overall, joining Will Bennett (2004) and Dallas Bossort (2006). The forward is tied for second among the league leaders in power play points (12), and ranks second on Wesleyan in scoring with 21 points on nine goals and 12 assists. He scored all nine goals during conference play, and tallied 19 points in 18 NESCAC games.
Harris has been a key component in Wesleyan's excellent season, which has seen it increase its win total by 11 games from a year ago and make its first NESCAC Tournament since the 2013-14 season. The Cardinals will look to continue their success as they take on top-seeded Hamilton in the semifinals on Saturday, March 4th at 4:15 p.m.
Last season with the CT Oilers Harris has become a major force in the EHL Premier and is currently 7th in the league in scoring. Harris this season currently leads the team in scoring, goals & assists, with 53 points (25 goals, 28 assists) in 40 total. He also leads the team in plus/minus +25, and face-off efficiency with a 66% win percentage.
