Hohmann Update from the Czech Republic
BRECLAV, Czech Republic - Cason Hohmann (Plymouth, Mich.) scored two goals and Lukas Sutter (Whitefish, Mont.) notched a goal and an assist, as the U.S. Under-18 Select Team defeated Slovakia, 3-0, in an exhibition game in Piestany, Slovakia just prior to the start of the 2010 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament.
"I thought we played very well right off the opening faceoff," said Tim Army, head coach of the U.S. Under-18 Select Team. "We had good speed and moved the puck very well, creating a lot of chances. In the third period, we ran into some penalty trouble, so we have to focus on being disciplined for a full 60 minutes."
Game 1 vs Czech Republic:
The U.S. Under-18 Select Team defeated the Czech Republic, 3-2, in its opening game of the 2010 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. Cason Hohmann (Plymouth, Mich.) paced Team USA with a pair of points (1-1), while U.S. goalie Jay Williams (McLean, Va.) made 18 saves in the win.
"We had a great tempo, with good speed and energy throughout the game," said Tim Army, head coach of the U.S. Under-18 Select Team. "We were more disciplined and our penalty killing was excellent."
Game 2 vs Russia:
Alex Racino (Merrill, Wis.) and Cason Hohmann (Plymouth, Mich.) recorded a goal and an assist, but the U.S. Under-18 Select Team fell to Russia, 6-5, in a shootout at the 2010 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament.
"I thought the team played with a lot of energy," said Tim Army, head coach of the U.S. Under-18 Select Team. "We came up short in the shootout, but still had several things that went well for us."
Game 3 will be played tomorrow vs Finland.
