USHL - Riders top Saints

The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders defeated the Dubuque Fighting Saints 5-2 in a preseason scrimmage at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena Saturday night.  The two teams played Friday night in Dubuque with the Saints winning 5-4.  

Steven Agriogianis got the RoughRiders on the board in the 1st period, beating the Dubuque goalie backdoor seven minutes into the opening period.  Dubuque scored off a RoughRiders turnover late in the period to make the score 1-1 heading to 1st intermission.  

Marek Valach scored shorthanded 9:56 into the 2nd period after forward Brandon Stanley had received a five minute major and game ejection for boarding.  Harrison Roy gave the Riders a 3-1 lead late in the 2nd period.  

Brad Stonnell and Spencer DenBeste scored a pair of early 3rd period goals to give Cedar Rapids an insurmountable 5-1 lead.  Dubuque would tally late to make the final outcome a 5-2 RoughRiders win. 

The RoughRiders return to action next Wednesday night as they head to Des Moines for a preseason game against the Buccaneers.  Next Friday the RoughRiders are in Waterloo before returning to the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena next Saturday night, also against Waterloo.  Tickets are just $10 and can be purchased online at RidertownUSA.com or by calling 319-247-0340 between 8:30 am and 5 pm Monday through Friday.
