The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders have announced that two players have committed to play college hockey this fall.
Defenseman Jake Johnson will suit up for RPI (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute) in Troy, NY. Johnson, who played 51 games for the Riders last season, had one goal and 17 assists.
“We are happy for Jake Johnson and his family. Jake showed significant improvement over his 2 years in Cedar Rapids. RPI will be a great fit for him on the ice as well as in the classroom,” said Mark Carlson, Head Coach and General Manager of the RoughRiders.
Also heading to college is defenseman Matt Denman who will play this fall for the University of Minnesota after compiling four goals and 20 assists in 40 games for the RoughRiders.
“The Roughriders organization congratulates Matt and his family. Matt helped our team a great deal after joining us mid-season. It will be a thrill for Matt to play in his home state of Minnesota,” added Carlson.
