USHL - Riders beat Waterloo

 

Cedar Rapids, IA - September 23rd, 2017

The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders defeated the Waterloo Black Hawks Saturday night at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena by a 5-2 score.  

Nathan Smith scored the 1st of his three goals just 5:56 into the 1st period, offsetting an early Waterloo goal.  Marek Valach scored on the Power Play just a few minutes later, giving the Riders a 2-1 lead.  

Smith scored again in the 2nd period, putting the Riders up 3-1.  Waterloo scored with 1:08 left in the period to make the score 3-2 after two periods.  

Smith completed the hat trick 5:26 into the 3rd period.  Jakub Urbanek completed the scoring with an empty net goal with 1:02 left in the game.  

Jiri Patera and Blake Pietila split duties in goal for the RoughRiders.  

The team will head to Pittsburgh next week for the Fall Classic.
